Course Overview

The NPORS Telescopic Handler Experienced Worker Test (EWT) is designed to provide delegates with the skills needed to operate a telescopic handler, conduct pre-use checks and safely mount and dismount the machine.

The Experienced Worker Test (EWT) consists of a combination of verbal/written assessment and practical exercises and assessment.

This course is suitable for any delegate wanting to competently operate a telescopic handler, who has previous experience with the plant equipment. It is recommended that the delegate has at least two years experience on the equipment.

Since the inspection, operation and use of this plant equipment can be physically demanding, users should be physically fit and in good health. A good understanding of spoken and written English is required.

Successful delegates will be issued with a relevant NPORS Operators Card which is valid for 3-5 years, depending on the chosen certification route.

Important Information: All delegates must bring photo identification, this can include a valid Passport or Driving Licence.

By the end of the course, the delegates will be bale to answer questions on and perform the following:

  • Have a basic understanding of your industry, the dangers of working in your industry and their responsibilities as an operator
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer's handbook for the particular telehandler to be used
  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
  • Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for telehandler use
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
  • Controls and instruments
  • Weight assessment / Stability Factors
  • Starting, moving and stopping the telehandler
  • Handling laden and unladen pallets
  • Operation of hydraulic controls
  • Stacking/de-stacking – free standing and in racking at various heights
  • Loading and Unloading Procedures
  • Operate the telehandler safely and efficiently
  • Be able to establish effective communication methods
  • Environmental considerations
  • Carry out all end of shift checks
