This course is aimed at individuals with previous operating experience who are or will be responsible for using Scissorlifts and Mobile Booms in the workplace. If operatives have little or no experience, or additional practice time may be required, please view our IPAF Operator (Novice) Course.
Similarly, since the inspection, operation and use of MEWPs can be physically demanding, users should be physically fit and in good health and should, generally, not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, fear of heights / vertigo, giddiness / difficulty with balance, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness.
If you have any problems with literacy or language comprehension, or have any doubts about your fitness to use an MEWP, you must bring them to the attention of your employer. This need not preclude you from using MEWPs, provided your employer conducts an assessment and is able to put into place adequate measures, to take account of any difficulties you may have.
This course is a prerequisite for the IPAF Demonstrator Course and IPAF IAD Operator Course.
An initial pre-course assessment takes place in the form of a multiple choice examination at the beginning of the day; intended to allow the instructor to gauge the knowledge and understanding of each operative before course commencement. Successful operatives will gain an understanding of current legislation and best practice on a range of MEWPs; including carrying out a pre-use inspection and safe operation in line with approved methods and the manufacturer's instructions. At the end of the theory session, operatives will take a short multiple choice test. If operatives successfully pass the test, they will then move on to the practical training and assessment.
As of June 2021, all successful delegates are registered through the IPAF Digital Card License Application (ePAL) system, making your IPAF certification accessible via the ePAL app on iOS and Android. This is inclusive within the course price.
For a physical copy of your IPAF Certificate and PAL Card, an additional charge of £12.50 + VAT per delegate is incurred. Please ensure this is requested prior to the course date or at our reception desk on the day of your course, otherwise it will be treated as a replacement certificate at £35.00 + VAT each.
