Course Overview

Our IPAF Harness Inspection (HI) course delivers a minimum of 4 hours of instruction in an instructor-led half-day classroom course, and is designed to instruct up to a maximum ratio of 10 delegates per instructor. The IPAF Harness Inspection (HI) course provides the essential knowledge and practical application for the statutory formal inspection of Harnesses, Lanyards and associated ancillary PFPE equipment for use in a MEWP.

Upon successfully completing this course, delegates will:

- Be able to demonstrate competence in conducting periodic and interim inspections of safety harnesses for use in a MEWP

- Be able to demonstrate competence in conducting periodic and interim inspections of lanyards for use in a MEWP

- Be able to demonstrate how to maintain associated records of inspections

In order to attend this course, delegates must have successfully completed the IPAF Harness Awareness (HA) and Harness User (HU) modules and hold in-date certificates for both qualifications.

This course consists of an instructor-led training room presentation, written assessment, practical training and assessment.


This course is aimed at individuals who will be responsible for inspecting safety harnesses in the workplace (specifically for usage in MEWPs), and is essential for anyone who will personally conduct statutory inspections of harnesses, lanyards and associated PFPE equipment on behalf of an organisation.

The classroom method of learning is suitable for delegates who already hold a valid IPAF Operator license and would like to add the HA/HU qualifications to said license, and for those who require formal harness training in the specific context of working with MEWPs.

Successful delegates will receive an IPAF Harness Inspection (HI) ePAL license valid for 5 years. Delegates can also choose to upgrade to the IPAF Harness Inspection (HI) qualification at any time during the 5 year validity of the HA/HU certification.

As of June 2021, all successful delegates are registered through the IPAF Digital Card License Application (ePal) system, making your IPAF certification accessible via the ePal app on iOS and Android. This is inclusive within the course price.

For a physical copy of your IPAF Certificate and PAL Card, an additional charge of £12.50 + VAT per delegate is incured. Please ensure this is requested prior to the course date or at our reception desk on the day of your course, otherwise it will be treated as a replacement certificate at £35.00 + VAT each.

This instructor-led classroom-based course provides a half day training covering the Harness Inspection (HI) practical module that typically runs over an afternoon. Upon arrival to the course, you will be asked to provide evidence of valid IPAF Harness Awareness (HA) / Harness User (HU) qualifications in order to be eligible for the Harness Inspection (HI) qualification.
