Course Overview

Our BAF Abrasive and Diamond Wheels on Disc Cutters Course delivers a minimum of 4 hours of instruction and is designed to teach up to a maximum of 12 delegates. This course focuses on diamond and abrasive wheel safety as well as portable two stroke petrol fuelled Disc Cutters.

Delegates who also operate Portable Electrical Powertools on a regular basis, may benefit from attending our Portable Powertools and Abrasive Wheel Safety Course.

This course consists of a training room lecture, DVD presentation and written assessment. Kentec Training is accredited by the British Abrasive Federation for the delivery of this course.

The course is aimed at operatives, managers and supervisors who need to understand the safe and correct use of Disc Cutters (Two Stroke Petrol fuelled) using Diamond Cut Off Blades or Resin Bonded Abrasive Wheels in the workplace.

You’ll learn how to select, inspect, mount and use Diamond Cut Off Blades and Resin Bonded Abrasive Wheels mounted on Disc Cutters and the selection of the correct and appropriate P.P.E for such tasks. The course will also cover HAVS, Noise, Respiratory and Mechanical hazards associated with the use of this equipment. This course is delivered by an approved BAF (British Abrasive Federation) instructor.

All successful delegate's will receive a Kentec E- Certificate of Training, valid for 3 years.

This course includes:

  • An overview of Health and Safety Legislation inc HASWA 99, PUWER 98, MHSWR 99, PPER 92
  • The hazards, risks and risk control measures including Contact, Wheel Burst, Noise, Respiratory and HAVS Hazards
  • The recommended Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • The features of portable Disc Cutters and their safe use, pre-use checks and refuelling (Non-Live Practical Exercise)
  • Diamond Cut Off Wheel Selection, Identification and Inspection (Non-Live Practical Exercise)
  • Resin Bonded Abrasive Wheel Selection, Identification and Inspection – Types 41 (Non-Live Practical Exercise)
  • The correct use, setting, adjustment and inspection of flanges, guards and accessories
  • How to Mount of Abrasive Wheels and Diamond Wheels on Disc Cutters (Non-Live Practical Exercise)
  • Theory Assessment
