Course Overview

Our RTITB Fork Lift Truck Operator - Experienced (Pivot Steer) Course delivers a minimum of 6.5 hours of instruction and is designed to instruct up to a maximum of 3 delegates, providing the skills needed to operate the truck safely and efficiently, carry out a pre-use inspection & recall and explain the causes of truck and load instability.

The Pivot Steer truck is also known as an articulated, bendi or flexi trucks. They resemble a conventional forklift, with an additional function to swing the mast 90 degrees either side of the truck. These machines are commonly found in warehouse environments due to their handling abilities. They can also be found outside in yards or carrying out similar operations to the counterbalance and reach truck.

Please note we only offer this course on the client's site using their own pivot steer machinery.

This course consists of a classroom lecture, DVD presentation, written assessment, practical training and assessment.

The RTITB Fork Lift Truck Operator - Conversion (Pivot Steer) Course is designed for those with an existing qualification in one category, but requires either a different type of machine or a different licence within the same machine type e.g. P1 licence (Rider) being converted to include the P2 licence (Pedestrian).

Since the safe use of forklift trucks require that delegates consult safety notices and read and thoroughly understand the manufacturer’s instruction manual, English literacy and language comprehension are important requirements for any user.

Successful delegates will receive an e-certificate accredited by RTITB which will be valid for a period of 3 years from the date of the course.

At the end of the course, delegates will take a short multiple choice test. There are a number of safety critical questions that must be answered correctly in order to pass the examination.

Once delegates have passed the theory test, they move onto the practical assessment where they will be tested on their ability to operate correctly and skilfully, but also without undue slowness, hesitancy or excessive speed. There are a number of exercises that must be completed such as stacking and de-stacking operations, reversing and accelerating.

The cut off for the practical assessment is 40 penalty points, however there are some circumstances where the delegate could be disqualified from completing the test such as violent collisions, operating dangerously, unsafe stacking or incurring more than three 5 point penalties in one area.
