Course Overview

Our NPORS Forward Tipping Dumper Novice Course delivers a minimum of 3 days of instruction depending on the experience of the delegates, up to a maximum of 3 delegates. This course will provide the delegates with an understanding of their industry, their responsibilities as trained operative and will enable them to prepare the forward tipping dumper for use and operate the machinery safely and efficiently.

In order to attend this course, you must hold a valid UK Passport or Driving Licence. This will need to be presented to the instructor on the day. This is a requirement of NPORS.

This course consists of a training room lecture, DVD presentation, written assessment, practical training and assessment.

This course is aimed at those who wish to operate a forward tipping dumper and do not have experience with the plant equipment.

Since the operation and inspection of this machinery can be physically demanding, delegates must be fit and able to carry out the tasks required in the course program. A good understanding of spoken and written English is required.

Successful delegates will receive an NPORS Forward Tipping Dumper Operators Card, which is valid for 3-5 years, depending on the chosen certification route.

By the end of the course, the delegates will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:

  • Their industry, the dangers of working in that industry and their responsibilities as an operator
  • The manufacturer's handbook for the particular dumper
  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
  • Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for dumper use
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
  • Controls and instruments
  • Stability Factors
  • Starting, moving and stopping the dumper
  • Operation of hydraulic controls
  • Transporting and discharging loads
  • Operate the dumper safely and efficiently
  • Be able to establish effective communication methods
  • Environmental considerations
  • Carry out all end of shift checks
